EMC Security First to Offer Network Communication

For years, home & business owners had the option of selecting landline telephone service or cellular communication modules to transmit alarm signals from their property.  Each of these methods of communication has their drawbacks.

POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) has seen its market share slip away at an alarming pace because of high costs and poor customer service from the providers.  Many POTS customers have migrated to VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), digital telephone service through their cable providers, or abandoned a stationary telephone for the more versatile mobile phones.

Cellular communicators provide an alternative to POTS lines but do come at a cost.  A consumer can expect to pay for the cellular equipment and a recurring monthly fee for the use of the cellular network.

In March, EMC Security introduced a 3rd option for its customers.  “Those monitoring subscribers that use broadband internet service at their home or business now have the option of monitoring their security system over that broadband connection,” says Michael Morton, Sales Manager at EMC Security.  The EMC Security central station invested in IP receiving technology that is specifically designed to receive digital signals over the internet.

“We’ve tested the communication and have found it to be much faster than POTS and cellular transmissions,” says Morton.  As long as the broadband connection is intact the reliability of proper transmission is great.  The connection is supervised and EMC Security’s central station will know within 24 hours if the connection is down.

The network communicator is offered to EMC Security customers only, and has been released at a cost of $249 and monitoring service for $16.95 per month (there is no additional monthly cost for the network communication service).
